Hey Love!
The holidays can bring up a lot of emotions for all of us. As well as the transition to the New Year.
Do you have some creative goals you haven't achieved? Or just feeling overwhelmed + stuck?
Here are 5 Things You Can Do if You're Stuck or Depressed:
1) Depression is the opposite of Expression.
What do you need to express? Is it a Creative Dream? Is it anger? We don't have many safe spaces to express anger, or sadness, in this culture. If you need to shift some energy and are in ATL, book me for a Reiki session + we'll clear your blocks. You can also book me for a Life Coaching session from anywhere in the world. I hold space for anger, tears, dreams, wild ideas, and more during all my sessions.
2) Watch Your Thoughts.
I recently created a new set of Affirmations. Affirmations are part of my daily self-care ritual. Step 1 is to write down all the negative thoughts possibly swirling around in your head. "Fear" thoughts, "not good enough" thoughts, etc.
Then get out a separate piece of paper (or file if you're typing) and change each negative thought on your list into a Positive Affirmation. It might seem "fake" or "forced" at first, but many times our moods are directly connected to the quality of thoughts we're thinking. For those who've done inner child work, we know any negative thoughts are not the truth of who we are.
You can take it a step further by printing, laminating, or voice recording your Affirmations and making them a part of your daily ritual.

3) Eat more Raw/ Fresh/ Whole Foods.
There's a book called Sugar Blues, basically connecting white sugar consumption to depression.
I find if I do too much gluten/ baked products, this can also affect my mood. Whereas fresh greens and raw foods energize me.
Is it time for a cleanse? Or to create a lasting pattern of health + wellness? You can book me for a Holistic Wellness Coaching session or purchase my recipe books, Retreat Recipes for Yoga Lovers, New Raw, and Little Red Recipes.
4) Exercise.
Exercise moves stuck energy + it's one of the best natural depression remedies. Try it, one day at a time. Find something you love. Dance and nature walks/ hikes are some of my favorites!
5) Find a therapist.
Therapy is a great support to have, and having survived a global pandemic, we all need it. Personally, I go to therapy. My therapist is spiritual + holistic. There is someone out there for everyone. You can check out psychologytoday.com to find a provider that takes your health insurance (a lot of times it's completely covered), is a match to your religious/ spiritual path, your culture, etc.
I've heard, for some men, it can be hard to find a Black male therapist, and beam.community and expressyourselfblackman.com are two great resources.
Hope these 5 tips + resources are helpful!

Debra.
