Comfort + Balm for an Anxious Mind

Happy Full Moon!

Life and the world has been so crazy. We don't know what to expect or where to turn.

We are all living in some level of PTSD -- pandemic traumatic stress disorder, as I like to say.

Those who say they don't need therapy or a similar type of support, are fooling themselves. Just saying ;)

So how can we comfort an anxious mind?

Here are 10 ways for you:

1) Turn off the TV/ news/ take social media breaks. Track how much time you are absorbing stressful information, versus practicing self-care.

2) Daily meditation -- I love Insight Timer + Deepak.

3) I've been loving Breathwork with Rob Starbuck. There are plenty others out there too!

4) I am also in love with The Amethyst Biomat. I lay on mine everyday, and give Reiki sessions on it, to those local to Atlanta. Reply to this email if you're interested in a Session! ;)

5) Daily exercise is the best natural kept secret for anxiety! Try it!

6) Get support! Therapy, Life Coaching, Affirmative Prayer, a Reading, Reiki, a Massage, a Getaway, etc.

7) Receive enough human touch. Hugs. Reset the parasympathetic nervous system.

8) Get out into nature. And Ground. Earthing. Forest bathing. Return to the elements.

9) Get into your adaptogenic herbs like ashwagandha, which I love blending into daily drinks.

10) Use calming essential oils like lavender. If you've been following me for a while, you know I love Trader Joe's lavender salt scrub. It's one of my skin secrets! ;) And calming!

Sir & Ma'am vs. King & Queen

One thing's been happening recently. Since I've moved back to ATL from California, people have been calling me "Ma'am" and I hate it! ;)

For one, am I really that old? I like to think I'm 42 going on 24. ;)

For two, do you know calling white women "Ma'am" used to be a racial thing (and still is for a lot of people)? Black men were lynched for not calling white women by the proper "Ma'am.”

So when someone Black calls me "Ma'am" in Atlanta I am quick to call them "Ma'am" or "Sir" right back.

Sometimes, honestly, I make an effort to call an African descended being "Ma'am" or "Sir" just so I can reverse that racist "respect"-giving thing. And to a lot of people, it really is a form of respect, and I honor it, and am willing to use these greetings.

But what can we do to go beyond all of this? I actually prefer "King" and "Queen," especially when speaking to African descended friends (who use those words to reflect African royalty), or even anyone for that matter.

And I'm done with carrying on this outdated language.

But that's just my opinion.

I know "Ma'am" and "Sir" is just a form of respect.

And while we are talking about race + culture, I do want to say, as a Jewish-heritage woman, I support peace and an end to violence in the Middle East. And with that, I do feel it's time we honor the Palestinian experience, and not just the perspectives we are shown so much in our media.

WE ARE ALL ROYALTY. WE ARE ALL KINGS & QUEENS.

Questioning what's happening in the Middle East does not make me any less proud to be Jewish. In fact, when I stand up for what's right, it makes me even more proud to be Jewish heritage.

I love you all so much!

1) The Boris Henson Foundation: Free Therapy + Resources for the Black Community.

This is Taraji's foundation, and if you're not following her Peace of Mind with Taraji series (videos about mental health in the Black community), you are missing out! If you're Black, this is a beautiful + validating series!

And if you're working on being an ally to the Black community, this series is full of insight to better your understanding of the trauma of structural racism.

2) Better Help: Low Cost Therapy w/ cool community element + webinars, you can text your therapist throughout the week, which is cool! It's kind of like therapy on a private futuristic app, + I love it

3) PsychologyToday.com: Need a Black therapist? LGBT-friendly? Christian? Jewish? New Age spirituality? One that takes your insurance? Look no further. On PsychologyToday.com, you can type in keywords that help you find the perfect person! This is a GREAT RESOURCE!

In these times, if you're not getting therapy, and feel you don't need it, your mirror may need a lil polishing lol ;). We are all going through a traumatic + difficult time. And we're all also being asked to visit our childhood wounds, and heal our traumas, to transcend into this new frequency on the planet.

Why I Love Elaine Welteroth

I'm getting back into reading lately + am currently reading More Myself by Alicia Keys. Her energy is amazing; I feel like she is one of us -- a kindred.

Earlier in the quarantine I read More than Enough by Elaine Welteroth. OMGoddess. If you don't know who she is, remember when Teen Vogue transformed into socially conscious and featuring wayyyy more melanated/ diverse teens?? Well, that was Elaine Welteroth. She was Editor in Chief at that time.

And she is currently in a new position as a talk show host on CBS's The Talk, dropping all her gems.

Elaine is biracial, and even though I am 100% white/ European, I can identify with her experience being part of predominantly Black and predominantly white communities.

And her husband Jonathan performs at Afropunk, and has been doing these "Piano and Prayer" IG lives that I LOOOVE tuning into!

They got married during the quarantine, and I followed the whole thing on social media.

I feel like they are my friends! :)

Basically, they are #couplegoals. They seem like the ultimate power couple, balanced and real. Here to change the world, and heal. YESSSS.

Self-Care is Essential Work

First, I want to honor the life of John Lewis. The ceremony in Atlanta is about to start @ 2pm EST today + I plan on tuning in! ;) I wrote a post here.

It's important to stay aware + tune into inspiring, positive news that celebrates the good, like today.

And of course, to stay informed on what's not so good, so we can be the change. As Michael Beckwith says, every news headline is really a Prayer Request.

And also, if you spend all day reading the paper, scrolling social media, and watching the news, you are doing the wrong thing.

You must create your own bubble of self-care if you want to survive: mentally, spiritually, emotionally, physically.

Self-care includes community care, of course. It includes praying with your feet....

For me, that has looked like: having a Morning Ritual (for more ideas, click here). Going into nature daily. Moving my body daily. I now do Breathwork twice a week. (I've never done ayahuasca but it seems to be doing something similar: deep emotional release of trauma and wounds.) I sing once a week with Elah and AuSierra. I'm taking a bomb Marketing class with Kareem Manuel of We.Society.

I'm basically doing EVERYTHINGG including the Amethyst Biomat which is my new BFF. #singlelife #singlequarantinelife The Amethyst Biomat

The Amethyst Biomat is like a hug, it's infrared, negative ions, an entire bed, literally, of amethyst crystals, with copper and other cosmic materials. It's brings the body into the parasympathetic nervous system, it heals aches and pains. It cleanses all my chakras and sweeps away the social media scrolling of the day.

Seriously.

I am continuing to structure my days. Pour energy into my priorities. Connect with friends, even if it's over Zoom. Lots + lots of co-working. Getting into nature. Amethyst Biomat. Dance. Movement. Hiking. Repeat.

And my usual Green Smoothies. I am one of those rare people who has actually lost weight during this time. I am toned and in amazing shape. I've been doing my garlic, my lemons, my fruit.

And watermelons... So much FRUIT! Georgia Peaches! It's that time! ;)

Ecovillages, Communes, #BlackLivesMatter

It's so amazing how our Quarantine Vision Quest led to this powerful, potent, scale-tipping Civil Rights Movement Moment.

I have also been witnessing people planting gardens + returning to nature during the Quarantine.

This energy, I like to call the #EcovillageWorld. But the Ecovillage World is nothing without #BlackLivesMatter. The New Earth must include + center racial justice, equality, cultural diversity, and the Beloved Community, with traditionally marginalized voices in leadership, at the center.

For this reason, I am weaving together #BlackLivesMatter with this message all about Ecovillages + Communes!

I graduated college with a Sociology degree, and went on to spend my early 20's living on Ecovillages and Communes (Intentional Communities).

Even throughout my adult life, I've lived in Co-housing, Community Houses, been an Airbnb host out of my home, and worked at many Retreat Centers in Hawaii, the East Coast, and West Coast.

It's so interesting and fascinating and AMAZINGG that so many people are thinking about alternative ways of living right now, and returning back to the earth.

In 1999, I did a study abroad program in India with School for International Training.

While in India, I chose to spend a month living in an intentional community called Auroville.

Auroville and Earthships are getting a ton of social media shares right now through articles like this on Auroville, and this.

Auroville was fascinating because people from all different countries from around the world live there in harmony together.

Some of the other communities I lived at and visited include Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage, Twin Oaks Community, Earthaven Ecovillage, East Lake Commons Cohousing, Kalani Oceanside Retreat, Harbin Hot Springs, and more.

How can we makes sure the collective vision of the New Earth includes Black voices, not just the "white conscious" New Age voices I see in so many of my circles?

In Atlanta, there are so many Black-owned farms, Black-owned vegan restaurants, and Earth-based gatherings like Rose Retreat.

I started a YouTube series called Luminescence, featuring interviews with Black lightworkers and healers.

I Officiated My First Wedding!

I'll be honest; I wasn't sure if it was appropriate to send this newsletter out (I wrote it last week ;)) given all that is going on this week, but I decided to send it anyway! ;) (Click on the #BlackLivesMatter icon at the bottom for more info ;))

We've all been going through our Quarantine Empowerment Journey. A Vision Quest, Soul Seeking, and for some of us, Survival.

In the very beginning of March, I was asked to officiate my first Wedding! It was someone I had met at a Lizzy Jeff party (by the way, her book Principles & Potions for Peace, Purpose, & Prosperous Living is SOOO good).

Lizzy Jeff We met at the same vegan restaurant in LA where I met Erykah Badu!

And I owned, that YES, I am an Ordained Minister!!!! In fact, I have been since 2007. I'm ordained through the Universal Life Church, which is very interfaith, and accepting of all couples and traditions.

You might know me as a Jewish spiritual author, a member of the Agape International Choir (a New Age gospel choir in Los Angeles), and an Agape Prayer Warrior (that Affirmative Prayer I offer at Phoenix & Dragon Bookstore, on Facebook, and my YouTube!)

Officiating a wedding was EVERYTHANG for me! It combined my love of LOVE, first of all (I named my Award-Winning Raw Chocolates, Hot Love Chocolate Truffles, and infuse them with Reiki and Stevie Wonder songs ;))... my Life Coaching skills to meet with the couple beforehand to plan everything out, my Ritual Writing skillz and passion that I used to create Open-Eyed Heart-Wide Haggadah, my love of Affirmative Prayer, and of course, my love of LIVE EVENTS! ;)

This was a unique, futuristic experience, as it was a Social Distancing Wedding that was mostly on Zoom. ;)

There were a few select people in person, mostly the families of the bride and groom, and the Bridesmaids and Best Men (and they were socially distanced ;)) and then there were over 100 people on Zoom!

People came to the Zoom Wedding dressed to the nines, it was really quite beautiful and touching!

We combined the couple's Christian background with their love of Earth-based spirituality, Cosmic Consciousness, and Affirmative Prayer.

I loved writing the service, and being with them on their special day!

They had pro film industry connections, so the video cameras were everywhere, and the recording they created of both the in-person ceremony, and the Zoom guests, was fire! ;)

I am REALLY looking forward to doing more of these! From Christian, to Jewish, to New Thought, to Pagan/ Earth-based Spirituality, and more, I am pretty much comfortable with many traditions, and LOVE creating a ceremony that both speaks to the Bride/s and Groom/s, and also doesn't scare away the family. ;)

Quarantine Self-Love

I meant to write you so much earlier than this, but I've been in my own Quarantine Enlightenment Process. ;) (Who else has been feeling the solo-deep-dive-within-Olympic-gold-medal-training??!) ;)

In the beginning, I was having daily Anxiety Attacks, and remedied them by going running, for nature walks, and "forest bathing."

I've learned so much more about Wild Edibles and made things like: Chickweed Pesto, Candied Violets, and Sauteed Yellow Dock.

Nature time wove together with live-streaming events like New Zealand Earth Spirit Festival, learning about Ancient Egypt, lots of Elijah Ray, Porangui, Erykah Badu Quarantine Concert Series, Indigo Girls, D-Nice, and you know the rest....

Happy New Year 2020!

If you're like me, New Year's can be an emotionally mixed time. Everyone is posting their "Best of 2019" on Instagram, and we may be feeling that we didn't do enough, or don't have the "perfect plans" for tonight.

I've had some life-changing, heart-expanding New Year's celebrations, living my dreams, and then I've also had some years where I felt introverted (in a bad way), disappointed, and lonely.

So, I have an exercise for you!

Take a piece of paper + write down any negative recurring thought you've had in your head, about yourself or any aspect of your life. Maybe it has to do with 2019, or New Year's, what you didn't accomplish, what's "wrong," etc.

Try to write a whole page, if you can. Dig deep.

Then, get out a few more sheets of paper.

Go through each statement + change it into a Positive Affirmation. Write these Positive Affirmations in a list on your clean sheets of paper. Make them flowery + expansive, if you can!

Write the Positive Affirmations in the present tense, and make them expansive, yet believable.

For instance, "I didn't hit my financial goals in 2019" can turn into "I am wildly financially abundant. I always have 10X more money than I need."

Or, "My 2019 sucked" can turn into "I am always in the right place at the right time. The Universe has a perfect plan for me. I have an amazing success story."

Maybe you are celebrating some big wins tonight, and that is amazing too!

For years, I've been using Leonie Dawson's My Shining Year in Business and Life Workbooks to reflect on my year, and set detailed intentions and goals for the coming year. These workbooks give you a chance to dream BIG!

I've also been using Daily Affirmation Calendars for years + years. I love Sarah Love's I Stand for Love Calendar and Louise Hay's I Can Do It 2020 Calendar. They both feel connected to astrology + the cosmos.

I am also a spiritual moon/earth-based feminist, so I love and use the We'Moon Calendar every year.

I'm kind of calendar obsessed.

And by the way, I recommend laminating your list of Positive Affirmations when you're done! That way, you can carry it around with you in your laptop case, in your car, next to your bed, etc.

This is not to spiritually bypass our real feelings, and the real healing that they contain.

But sometimes, the same messages are playing over and over in our head, like a bad commercial.

If you wouldn't watch our current President on TV, then why would you listen to that made-up nonsense in your head??!

2019 Review + 2020 Goals

Happy Gemini Full Moon! How has your 2019 been? To be honest, for me it's been a deep dive, into Shadow Work. Healing my Inner Child, remembering and reclaiming my Power. Things didn't always work out the way I wanted them to, this year.

I've been trusting that with the Earth's frequency rising, and shifting into 2020, we needed to go there, into the depths, to heal what had been hidden, so that we can rise more greatly into what is to come.

I had definitely been flying high for many, many years. Singing in the Agape Choir, enjoying my life in LA. This year I've been in Atlanta ALL YEAR, which hasn't happened since 2011!!! And while I love Atlanta, I've been healing, sometimes not so prettily, my relationship with my family, and my own sense of Self-Worth.

There have been plenty of breakthroughs too! I launched Luminescence, my AMAZING YouTube series featuring Black healers + lightworkers. You should check it out!!!

I launched Conscious Communication Games, another series I am proud of! (You can click to watch on my website! ;))

And of course, Write Your Book, an online class over Zoom, that was really beautiful and profound.

Write Your Book

L'Shana Tovah to all who are celebrating the Jewish New Year today! ;) And for all of us, we can tune into the frequency of new beginnings + get a second chance to create our Vision Boards, our intentions until 2020, etc. ;)

I grew up in the Jewish tradition (Reform, had a bat mitzvah, went to Hebrew school), but then got into yoga, meditation, earth-based spirituality, and went on to explore New Thought, where I landed at Agape Spiritual Center in LA, joined the Choir, and became a Prayer Warrior! ;)

My first print book was actually a reclamation of my Jewish heritage, written in a New Age way (with raw, vegan recipes, of course!) It's called Open-Eyed Heart-Wide Haggadah, and it came out almost 10 years ago! It's floated around on the internet, appearing on Today.com, HuffPost, and more!

Marianne Williamson, Politics, Spirituality + Vision Boards

Hope you're well + wonderful! Sending love to Toni Morrison, as she makes her transition... Prayers....

Given all that's happening in the world, I wanted to share a political post....

Marianne Williamson taught me to get my head out of the spiritual sand + research my politicians. I volunteered in her 2014 campaign for Congress, and appeared in Alanis Morrisette's music video, called Today, the song that she wrote for Williamson's campaign.

I am a healer first: through Raw/ Vegan/ Plant-based Food, through Intuitive Readings + Oracle Cards, through Reiki and Affirmative Prayer, Life Coaching, Holistic Lifestyle/ Wellness Coaching, etc.

And yet, I got involved in Stacey Abrams' campaign for Governor + ended up as a full-time Staff member in 2018! Even just for 3 months! ;)

With all that is happening, it is okay if our Vision Boards turn political. It is okay to meditate, center ourselves, call our members of Congress, sign a petition, and vote. It is okay to use our anger and our rage, to fuel action, in whatever positive direction we feel guided to take.

I am definitely a Marianne 2020 fan, but I also hugged Cory Booker not too long ago (his energy is as awesome in person, as on TV), and I will stand behind any candidate who wins the Democratic nomination.

Some will say to separate politics from your business, especially as a healer, but I see that it's all connected!

Atlanta Raw Recipe Class w/ Debra Mazer Saturday July 20

When the world seems to be falling apart, children are in cages, and we all just went through a massive Full Moon Eclipse, we desperately need more than ever to surround ourselves with like-minded people, and make sure we have the support we need, so that we can be all that we're here to be on the planet.

We were born at this time, for a reason, and it is time to share our gifts.
